Dear Cadsoft team,

Do you have plans to support ODB++ export for Eagle?

If so, when will it arrive?

It's getting more and more difficult to defend our decision to continu using Eagle.
We need ODB++ export in order to make use of flying probe tester during the production of our boards.
Also, we need ODB++ export for signal integrity analysis software.

Seeing as all the main vendors now support ODB++ and more tools are now supporting it as their input format it would make sense for Autodesk to implement ODB++ into EAGLE. As ODB++ is owned by Mentor Graphics, I wonder how much of a hurdle this had caused previously?

Anyway, I suspect they have it in the plans somewhere already, if you look here http://www.odb-sa.com/partners/ you can see they are listed as one of the partners so they've registered and have access to all the ODB++ specs....

Having just had a glance through the v8.0 spec which is freely downloadable, it's a mere 230 pages.... It's probably not a quick job to add this support...

Best Regards,

Rachael

Yes

2 words REVENUE RECOGNITION. I now have to be very careful with what I
reveal or the accountants will hang me.

With that out of the way, we don't have a time table for it but looking
at how things move around here it probably won't be long.

Normally this need can be covered by providing an IPC-D-356 netlist. I
know it's not as nice but it is a way.

Let me know what formats the software accepts and I'll see if there's
anything we can get out of EAGLE that will hold you over until ODB is in
EAGLE.

Hi Chuck,

Nothing new on this front yet. It's a big feature to implement, right
now there are a few items that have higher priority.

Like I mentioned in my last reply we don't have a timeline for when this
will be in, but it is documented and our developers are aware of the need.

Thanks Jorge.  Thought you guys might have formalized a timeline since it's been some months since your post.  I'll look into IPC-356 usability in the meantime.

Just some comments to this ODB++ request.
I know the pcb manufacturers ask for this format, but I am not convinced
it is does much good for the Eagle user. The manufacturer may think he
is getting more manufacturing details than Eagle can supply, and the
Eagle user may think he is safe. ODB++ may carry a lot of data that is
not even specified in the Eagle format, such as layer material and track
impedances. Also, the manufacturer may get disappointed if the data is
not complete.
