A new beta version of EAGLE is now available for download.

Please see

http://www.cadsoft.de/betatest.htm

for details about how to get, install and use it.

The changes since the previous version are:

- Fixed drawing of mirrored or rotated frames.
- Improved construction of a polygon: now the last wire piece can be removed
with the escape key.
- Avoiding drag&drop in Control Panel by unintended click of the mouse wheel
button.
- Added a warning about connections from a contact to several signals while
loading a board (there's no known way to achieve this illegal state within
EAGLE though).
- Changed handling of signal names in the OPTIMIZE command to case insensitive.
- Now the OPTIMIZE command is available in all drawing editor types apart from
the device editor.
- Fixed ROUTE command with differential pairs; sometimes the initial wire
width was wrong.
- Avoiding a stuck progress bar if terminating a ULP with an exit code
within a script.
- Fixed possibly wrong window positions in case of a multi monitor setup on
Windows; improved handling of window restoration for multi monitor setup.
- Fixed a misinterpretation of colons in a sheet description; switching to
such a sheet with the sheet combobox didn't work.
- The text size of displaying the via length has been made dependent on the
diameter of the via.
- Fixed vanishing of smashed texts during MOVE of a group if the associated
element is locked.
- Now the groupwise moving of smashed texts of a locked element is inhibited
only if the element is included in the moved group, too.
- Added cross probing (highlighting) of signals to a module net that has
generated the corresponding signal(s) completely .
- Fixed update of sheet thumbnails after adding a PORT.
- CAM Processor: when running 'Process Job' it is being checked if the job covers
the Layer Setup.
- Fixed graphical issues due to wrong calculation of the bounding box regarding
the cross-reference display area on MUST gates; only gates with text place-
holder '>XREF' are taken into account.
- Avoiding use of the colon for modules and module prefixes. It is reserved
as hierarchical name separator.
- Fixed net renaming issue: Renaming a net with segments on several sheets
over the INFO dialog could lead to inconsistency and empty net names.

A detailed description of all changes can be found in the files
UPDATE and HISTORY.beta that come with the betatest archive.

Hi Walter,

Thanks for getting another beta version out. You mentioned in another thread last week that the OS X HiDPI issues would be fixed in this version but there is no mention of this in the list above and I have just tested it and can see no improvement over 7.5.3. Has this been removed from the build for some reason? Do you have any idea when this is now going to be included?

Many thanks,

Rachael

Hi Rachael,

this was me who wrote about improvements in 7.5.4. But it seems as if
I mixed up the beta versions. The improvments I thought of were already
available in 7.5.3. Sorry.

Hi Richard,

Ah yes it was you not Walter wasn't it Smile

So if the remaining fixes for HiDPI displays on OS X aren't available yet, do you have an idea when they will be available? Will we see this in 7.6.0?

Many thanks,

Rachael

Yippie this is really necessary for us. :-)
No more folder-salad in the future.

Thanks
Andreas

So... On the HiDPI issue thing, I know you use Qt and if you look here..... http://www.qt.io/qt5-6/

.... and then scroll down you will see the following:

Quote:
Cross-Platform High-DPI Scalable UIs
Qt 5.6 introduces cross-platform high-DPI support for easy configuration of new or existing Qt UIs that automatically scale across different screens sizes.

So does this mean you could potentially update your Qt library for 7.6.0 to finally properly support HiDPI on OSX? This is an LTS release of Qt launched in March 2016. As it's LTS would it make sense to be using it in your potentially final v7 release so you have a stable and supported platform underneath EAGLE v7 whist we wait for v8 to come out?

Many thanks,

Rachael

The suggestions we made to Qt haven't been realized so far, but a couple of other changes regarding
HighDPI. They mention an environment variable being sufficient for automatic scaling of
'not highdpi aware' applications.
We have EAGLE running with Qt5.6 and just checked this, but it obviously does not work
(it's also unclear what's meant with automatic scaling. E.g., you have a high DPI
monitor and use it with default resolution. If with the env variable the application would just
scale up to normal size and not render it the finer way, it wouldn't help).
Running EAGLE as 'highdpi aware' application as we have it right now but linked with
new Qt5.6 behaves the same way like with the older Qt version.

We're not updating to Qt5.6 for V7.6 but it wouldn't make a difference anyway.
Very likely after 7.6 we will still release further beta versions and a version 7.7.
However, I can't make any promises on the HighDPI topic.
