A new beta version of EAGLE is now available for download.

Please see

http://www.cadsoft.de/betatest.htm

for details about how to get, install and use it.

The changes since the previous version are:

- Fix for not searchable PDF printings on MAC.
- Fix to avoid intensive network traffic caused by GUI elements of the
autorouter.
- Fixed unusable confirm dialog in CAM processor; under special conditions
it could be blocked by the progress dialog.
- Fix for wrong display of mirrored texts in package previews.
- Fixed handling of vias if reselecting a differential pair for routing.
- If starting the autorouter, the TopRouter is now checking whether
the board is already routed completely.
- Made image export to TIFF format work again. There was a regression in V7.3.
- Restored V6 behavior for designs w/o hierarchy if combining or renaming
net segments, which could cause unnecessary ripups.
- Added highlighting of the current group if starting GROUP command.
- Added DXF import to file pulldown menu in schematic and board editor
(executed by import-dxf.ulp).
- Extension of proxy settings by an optional username and password.
Saving of the password is also optional and in an encrypted form.
See Help/Check for Update/Configure in Control Panel.
- Now 64 colors of all palettes are initialized.
- Now the icons in EAGLE are scalable (see Options menu in Control Panel).
The icons are in SVG format and stored in folder 'icons' under bin folder.
The classic set of EAGLE icons is not available in SVG format and
therefore not scalable.
- Added a special DRC error for intersecting signal polygons with same rank.
- Added tool tips to the DRC/ERC error list containing the error descriptions.
- Keeping order of 'SET CONTEXT' commands if displaying the context menu.
- Workaround for Linux 64 bit, because Red Hat (RHEL 6.6) is not
yet providing an up-to-date GLIBC library.
- Implementation of a basic file locking mechanism: by default any files
that are loaded into an EAGLE editor are locked, i.e. not available for
writing by other EAGLE instances. Locked files are reported to the user.
He can retry getting the file, save under a different name, continue editing
without saving or break the lock. The locking can be switched off
which is saved in eaglerc user settings.
- The EAGLE Freeware edition now starts with a temporary advertisement window
and the Control Panel has got an advertisement section.
- For the EAGLE Light edition (both Freeware and Commercial) the number of
available schematic sheets has been increased to 2.
- Update of various ULPs integrated into EAGLE's editors.
- Avoiding a crash on Mac if closing a drawing window with Command(Apple)-W
immediately after loading a board and schematic pair and restoring the
minimized partner.

A detailed description of all changes can be found in the files
UPDATE and HISTORY.beta that come with the betatest archive.

This was on of the best step of the Version 7.

But, please give the new icons more Contrast!

This new "grey in grey with other greys Style" is perhaps a modern trend,
but we must not do the same shit than all others.

Please remember: Engineers prefer more the function than the design.

Thanks! Andreas

I agree with Andreas that the scaling of the icons is one of the best
steps in Ver.7
That is very good for my old eyes but imho was about time because of the
large screen sizes nowadays.
Unfortunately the larger size doesn't make the new "designer icons"
better recognisable imho.
And again unfortunately the scale able feature does not go for the
classic icons :-(
The new icons are imho a blur in blur and I would shoot them beyond
Pluto....

It seems to be the new tendency of eagle to produce half-done products
like the mentioned item or the "hierarchic design" for example. All that
just to be able to add another "feature" to the list?
I think that is not the correct attitude, so change that PLEASE.

The classic icons are designed in 16x16 pixels. I am sorry, but it does
not make sense to make them scalable. They are fine for their size but
how would such an icon look like in a bigger size? I think the will be
hardly recognizable.

The old icons were drawn long time ago. Maybe that should have be done
as vector graphics already, but it was not. There will be no changes
with the classic isons.
The new icons are in vector graphics format, and they can be scaled
now. They are not as bad as you say. It's always a very personal
impression.

BTW: You could also replace the icons by your own icons....

Custom icons, excellent. I just modified a few to see how well it works. Nice.

Hello Guys!
Now I have optimized every new icon of the new ones.
I changed only the colours. For me I locate the right icon more by colour than by style.

I think: now! it feels like Eagle.

With the original-ones it feels like after a night with not sleep well enough ;-)

For example look at the pics...

If you want to use it:
http://www.aftec.de/eagle/EeagleIconsAF.zip

Just one question: What is the meaning of the new paste icon?

Greetings
Andreas

Good stuff Andreas
Kudos for being the first to demonstrate a changed set of icons.

I have been investigating alternatives and will create another set of
icons. Currently, the default icons are a mixed bag. Some are good
symbology but others need improving. There are some that need replacing.
I noticed the 'Stop' icon. It really is a 'No Entry' symbol.

I agree that colour does make a difference.

Good stuff Andreas... they look better if they are a little more crisp..

You can say that again.

But I know now why the new icons are grey in grey: cadsoft ran out of
colours...
They are all in the new 64 colour palettes... ;-)

Hi Andreas,

This is awesome!!! I'm looking forward to other icon sets, I really like
the idea of users being able to have more control over EAGLE's appearance.

I think other users could benefit from this.

I would encourage you to load these up to the tools and converter
section of our website. If we get enough of these it might justify
having a separate section on the website for them.

Very cool work Andreas, as a user I thank you.

Please consider: There are more than 200 icons to edit!
