I found a lot of very useful information on the Cadsoft website (their FAQ SECTION):

http://www.cadsoftusa.com/training-service/faq/#c91

BUT it is SEVERE need of an update to give new Eagle users a GOOD impression:
====================================
2. Does EAGLE run with Windows Vista and Windows 7?
Yes it does. EAGLE version 5.x.x runs without problems. If you are working with an older EAGLE version, for example 4.1x, there are a few things you have to take care of:
1. If you are not able to install EAGLE 4.1 from the CD-ROM.......

The Download area of CadSoft's web server offers lots of User Language Programs for free.

Various useful ULP-based functions (Selection, January 2007): **** 8 YEARS AGO???!! **

Measurement tool for boards -- adimv4_0mm.ulp
Duplicate schematic and layout -- duplicating_v3.zip
.....

Hi Hoyt,

I fully agree that needs to be updated, I'll bring it up to the
attention of management and the web devs.

SIX MONTHS later and nothing is done, nor a timeline of when it is to be expected. Typical response on so many Eagle issues. Let Kicad and other programs catch and surpass Eagle as user requests are put under the rug or conveniently ignored.

Hello Hoyt,

Someone is having a bad day :). The website is actually going to be
redesigned soon, hence why you haven't seen much effort put into
correcting the current website.

It's important to realize that from the outside it may appear that
nothing is being done, but that's only because you are not on the inside
working and planning to try to make EAGLE better and to improve our
customer's experience.

Jorge Garcia

What do you want? This are uploads from users for a long time.
Should they removed? I think not. They are useful as an example
for other users.
They may be useless for newer Eagle Versions, but there are
users with older versions.

Does EAGLE run with Windows Vista and Windows 7?
I'd expect to see compatibility with WIN10, not VISTA!!!! This shows potential users CADSOFT is probably too LAZY to maintain their software or website. If you sell TV's would you want to mention that they can now display in color?

Various useful ULP-based functions (Selection, January 2007):
Has nothing of merit been done since then?? (9 YEARS!!) Again, a bad impression
This was brought up 6 months ago

I have to admit I would also like to have more feedback from the
developers on what bugfix/improvement is planned in what timeframe and
for which release.

The only one really caring about the users suggestions is you I have the
impression.

They should put a poll on the website, were users can suggest
features/bugfixes for a certain period and then let people vote what is
most important and provide a timeline when its to be implemented.

What? You are not on windows11???? ;-)
My friend I think you oversee that not everyone is using the latest OS
neither the latest eagle.
You may buy a new car before the paint is dry, I buy it after a year or
later when most of diseases have been cured.
I rather prefer the developers do their job on eagle and web
designers do their job on the website..... and Farnell leaves Cadsoft
doing their job.
The website is imo not in best shape I admit but should be OK for
interested people,
as a user I hardly look on to it.

Others do, and EAGLE is required to run on these OSes as well. Windows 8
entered the stage 5 years ago and EAGLE is still not ready to run on it.
Or are you saying that CadSoft should wait until your Windows 7 support
expires? Will you then update to Windows 8, or its successor Windows 8.1
(albeit much too modern OS)?

I am with Hoyt: They want to sell software. They can't, if this software
is not compatible with the current OS's. Nobody will downgrade the OS
just because of EAGLE.

For new users, the first impression is what counts. The first impression
is, that they stopped development in 2009. And it's not limited to new
users. I'm using EAGLE since 1996 now, but I'm under the very same
impression...

I believe Eagle will work with the latest OS's, the issue is that it gives a Eagle black eye to see that obviously things such as maintaining the website are neglected. Saying a new website "is in the works" does not explain why the information is already outdated by many years.

If you are interested in buying a laptop & the website says it is USB & WiFi compatible would that make you confident? Not to mention we offer great add-on ULP functions from 2007--would that make you even more confident?

Please read again... I never said something about downgrade,
but that some users still use older systems and older eagle versions.

Besides I run eagle6.6.0 on win8.1 without problems and the Beta free
versions of 7.x

Imho impression is not the thing that counts but function is.
You have a different meaning, OK so be it.

I said "first impression", read again. And By looking at CadSoft's
website, new users might get the impression that they abandoned
development on EAGLE.

Yes, I too stop evaluating software any further, if it looks like a
disaster at the very beginning. And if function is all that counts, you
(and I) would have already stopped using EAGLE.

These are very valid points you guys.

I'll talk to marketing and see if we can get some movement on this. This
thread is going to go a long way in helping the case so thank you for
all of your comments.

Feel free to keep adding comments, it's just more ammo for the case of
fixing the website.

Just to clarify, EAGLE runs perfectly fine under Windows 10. The biggest
issue we've run into is users having to relicense EAGLE after updating
from Windows 7 to 10.

Can you clarify this Jorge? Users are going to need a new license if they try to install on Windows 10? Is this true all the time or only in certain situations?

James.

If you install a new operating system, you have to re-license EAGLE.
That's a matter of EAGLE's copy protection.
But that's not a problem. You can do this with the license data you
intially got. Simply take the license file and the personal installation
code and re-license EAGLE. No need to buy a new license.

Oh, that is what he meant. That is fine and understandable. It sounded like you needed to get a license regenerated to work with Windows 10 which would have been a nightmare.

James.
