The installer creates a directory c:\eagle-7.1.4 in advance, before I
even told it to install elsewhere.

And I still insist that the default install location should be
C:\Program Files(x86)\eagle-7.1.4 or to be more precise
%ProgramFiles%\eagle-7.1.4 and it has not to touch my root directory of
my drive.

I have to do multiple installs on differnt PCs and it is annoying to
everytime have to chenge the path manually.

Microsoft has guidelines for this (I know it was discussed months ago)

Until cadsoft splits all the data files into a folder with full user access,
this won't happen.
Cadsoft did not catch up on the computer security side of things yet.

Also moving the data to a data folder also brings up new questions. Should
it create a data folder for each version? I guess the obvious answer to this
is yes, but there are some good reasons for not as well.
I am better of installing it manually to the program files folder, and never
ever use the data files provided with the install files, but rather take a
copy of the bits I use to a project specific folder, or live with read only
access to those files.

it's created as initial suggestion but removed if you decide to install it elsewhere.

The majority of our users is OK as we have it now.
The user right problems are gone.

We know as well. The alternative idea of separating user data from "our" data
basically makes sense of course, but it's not s clear what's user data and what not,
(the license file, eagle.scr, eagle.def), in particular if users adapt things individually.
Realizing this would be significantly more effort.
We have this on our list of suggestions but don't consider this as a high priority thing.

Walter Spermann

That never ever happened to me. Of course eagle shows this as a standard
path but it's up to the user to accept this or type in a different path
(which I always do).

Obviously it will be deleted again automatically if I choose a different
folder as Walter Spermann pointed out (I still don't see the point of
creating it in advance, it can be created when the file copying really
starts).

Anyhow I will suck it up and live with it then.

This basically means that you don't take computer security seriously. It's
"ok", but you need to be aware of the consequences, like in strict managed
servers, and remote desktop cases.

Hi,

how many free space have you on your hard disc?:^0
I'm fighting with the same Problem.B-)
I make copies, just the new files, manually into the beta test folder.

Best Regards,
Gerald

Running from SSD, but have all libs on network share and also a global
eagleusr.rc passed to EAGLE via command line parameter.

Works great when only one user works at the same time but on differnt
PCs. I even have this shares made "offline available" and sync them via
VPN from time to time.

Usually I have the latest release and 1-2 beta versions at same time. We
even run eagle 5,6 and 7 at the same time.

No problem so far.
