In EAGLE 6.5, 6.6 and 7 (all Windows), the 'row' and 'column' ULP
variables in the board editor don't work anymore:
1. Create a new schematics with board.
2. Place frames in schematics and board.
3. Place a component with package inside both frames.
4. Run the following ULP:
project.schematic(S)
S.sheets(SH)
SH.instances(I)
dlgMessageBox("Schematic: "+I.column+" "+I.row);
project.board(B)
B.elements(E)
dlgMessageBox("Board: "+E.column+" "+E.row);
5. The schematics work properly, the board just shows
question marks

It is unclear to me in which version of 6.x this broke - 5.12 worked
properly.
Would it be possible not only to correct this in version 7, but also in
the remains of 6? Thanks.

FYI
It also fails in v6.2.2

it's fixed for V7.

I takes this as a "we don't care about bugs in V6 any more".

Hello Markus,

Once a new release of EAGLE comes out, all development ceases on the
previous major release(unless of course some truly horrific showstopping
bug is discovered). This is how EAGLE has always worked in the past 25
years.

Due to current circumstances, I'm sure this will be more of an issue now.

I can understand, but maybe at some time in future there will be some
last bugfix release where all the tiny glitches and flaws will be fixed?

I remember a 4.16R2 ages ago (yes, Eagle user since 10+ years, worked
with first time in my job training, must have been around 1996).

You have my full support to put all manpower in bugfixing V7, the first
bug in V7 is the licensing system which should be fixed with the highest
priority ;-)

so far we never worked with on 2 development branches to avoid additional overhead.
The main problem for not moving to V7 is obviously the new licensing.
We are evaluating alternatives and improvements and hope to find
a more acceptable solution soon. We will keep you and the forum posted.

Hi,

And the price for xx new functions. Of course well working functions.

The upgrade price is ca 1/3 of the new so I guess a lot of new features
should be available ....

Best regards

I would buy the upgrade even if I don't need the hierarchical design
just to support CadSoft. It's been 3 years without a new Version, the
company needs to pay the running costs for operating the business. But
not with the new licensing scheme.

It took them three years to release a version without beta testing (less
than 4 weeks is not beta testing). They don't even have the
documentation ready so far. We got an unacceptable licensing model, not
so nice icons and a TopRouter that does not get boards done. The classic
autorouter is still single threaded and got harder to use. I did not
look into hierarchical design so far, it protects me from being even
more disappointed.

One the other side, there are tons of suggestions in the "suggest"
groups. They ignored them all. There are many outstanding annoyances
they are aware of, nothing changed. They started a survey of what is
most important. And the outcome is "new licensing model" and "icons"?

As Grzegorz, I expect at least some value for my money. But I can see
no real value added in v7. Paying just to support farnell? Not sure...
