Beta 6.9.1 Uses Same .eaglerc file as EAGLE v6 [message #155847] Tue, 17 June 2014 15:22 Go to next message

This should be changed. New versions of EAGLE should use different .eaglerc files so I can keep different versions on my machine without them clobbering each other.

James.

Maybe you can select a separate rc file for the beta version by using a
command line parameter with it.

Hi Guys,

The -U parameter works in this version just like it did in older
versions. I know there was intent to implement eaglerc files as James
had suggested looks like it didn't make it into the final cut for this
release.

This will likely be adjusted in a follow up release.

Thanks Jorge. Just keep in mind that in Mac OS X it's not exactly trivial to pass command line parameters to it. You can do it creating an application using Script Writer or other utilities. But for this type of functionality that should be built in I'd expect the CAD tool to just do it itself. Having eagle7.rc or similar seems like a simple solution to me.

Cheers,

James.

we don't have this yet, but I can say that from V6 to V7, compatibility is only a light problem:
The format stays XML with some extensions.
The format of library files didn't change at all,
schematic and board files written with V7 are V6 compatible as long as you don't work with
hierarchies or the new autorouter.
So using the same eaglerc (=> same prject and library paths) like in V6 shouln't be a big problem.
We may still change this if we get the time for this.
For beta testing we recommend to work on a copy of the original data anyway.
