Does anyone have footprints or libraries for any of the i.MX-series
processors (any one of them works, but the i.MXL and/or i.MX31 would be the
most helpful)?
If you have them/it, just attach it to an email and send it to:

Thanks in advance,

I've been using the ULP BOM-AM-15 to create all my BOM output and placement
files.
The BOM is grouped by same values and gives columns of quantity, part
designator (C1, R1..), value package and description.
The Placement file is grouped by part and gives columns of part, package,
location (x,y), angle, side and description.

Output is chosen as html. The output files will both import nicely into
Excel (which the assembly house uses) and will open in Internet Explorer
with nicely formed columns (for printing).

Since the setup files for BOM and placement are used with all of our
projects, there is no need to put a copy in each design folder. A single
copy of the setup files (*.BOMsu) is in the top level of the projects
folder. From any design, open the ulp, choose the output tab and click 'get
setup'. From the file menu, just go up a level (as necessary) and select the
desired setup file (*.BOMsu). When output is created, it will be in the
original project directory.

Recently our board/assembly house asked that we include a RoHS specifier in
the BOM file. I found that it was easy to do within the BOM ulp.
As usual, from the design, open the ulp, go to the output tab and get setup
file.
Click Default output title and add any extra text that may be needed. I was
entering the RoHS spec here but the line gets cluttered and I wanted to put
it on a separate line. Found that using html tags, that multiple lines can
be printed for this header information. At the end of what would be the
first line, add <br> followed by the text for the second line and follow
with <hr>
Using <br> creates a new line and the <hr> is a horizontal line which
visually separates the header from the column headings.

Will experiment later trying to add the html tags to the Title= lines in the
listings below.

There is a very minor bug in the ulp in that the first get setup file opens
OK but the second setup file initially does not open as expected.
Work-around is to get setup file a second time and it will open as expected.

Hi

There seems to be some agreement over vendor-neutral CAD data for
packages and symbols and the preferred application is Ultra Librarian
Reader:

http://www.national.com/cad/

http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_P AGE&nodeId=1406&dDocName=en537026

The

application is here:

http://www.accelerated-designs.com

Will it have Eagle support? Can Eagle already import any of these
library formats?

This question pops up now and then
I usually just use wire as jumpers or as soldered to traces
But now i spotted this elegant idea of having traces etched as
mechanical parts delivered as metal labels in sheets

After upgrading to 5.3 from 4.1 I noticed that the ratsnest command can be used with netlist names to control the display of associated airwires. To take advantage of this, I export a netlist and then import it into an MS Access table (mysql would also work just fine) and create whatever query I need to specify the nets to display airwires for. For example, if I want to display all of the airwires between IC1 (a 180-pin BGA) and IC2 (an SDRAM) I query for all nets that are common between the two. I then use this list of nets to create a script with RATSNEST ! * to turn off all airwires and then another RATSNEST command with the nets from the query as arguments to enable the display of airwires in common between IC1 and IC2. The following is the actual script.

RATSNEST ! *;
RATSNEST SDRCAS SDRCS SDRRAS SDRWE SDRADR0 SDRADR1 SDRADR10 SDRADR11 SDRADR12 SDRADR2 SDRADR3 SDRADR4 SDRADR5 SDRADR6 SDRADR7 SDRADR8 SDRADR9 SDRBA0 SDRBA1 SDRCKE SDRCLK SDRDAT0 SDRDAT1 SDRDAT10 SDRDAT11 SDRDAT12 SDRDAT13 SDRDAT14 SDRDAT15 SDRDAT16 SDRDAT17 SDRDAT18 SDRDAT19 SDRDAT2 SDRDAT20 SDRDAT21 SDRDAT22 SDRDAT23 SDRDAT24 SDRDAT25 SDRDAT26 SDRDAT27 SDRDAT28 SDRDAT29 SDRDAT3 SDRDAT30 SDRDAT31 SDRDAT4 SDRDAT5 SDRDAT6 SDRDAT7 SDRDAT8 SDRDAT9 SDRDQM0 SDRDQM1 SDRDQM2 SDRDQM3;

I've been using Eagle for a year now and have completed a dozen designs. I started with Eagle 4.1 but recently upgraded to 5.3. A key part of my engineering system is using the program Parts & Vendors. When I started with Eagle 4.1, I decided to create a new library of parts from scratch. Each part in my Eagle library has a value that corresponds to a part number in the Parts & Vendors program database. For example, in my Eagle library the part 00140 has a description of 22uF 10V, CAP TANT 22UF 10V 10% LOESR 0603 SMD.

When I create a new part, I first create an entry in Parts & Vendors and add description, vendors, manufacturer, pricing, lead time, etc. I then create a new part in the Eagle library with the same P&V part number as the value. When I complete a schematic I export the BOM from Eagle and import it into Parts & Vendors. From Parts & Vendors, I can instantly check BOM costs for various levels, print purchase orders, export Excel data for upload to Digi-Key etc. This is the advantage of having one unique part number for each item in an Eagle library.

On a new design, I can reuse parts from the library with confidence as they have already been checked and sourced. Until I upgraded to 5.3, when I added a part to the schematic, the name (C7) and value (00140) would be displayed next to the part symbol. I would then have to add text to display the part's value which with 00140 would be 22uF 10V. Since I have upgraded to version 5.3, I have gone back through the library and added a DESC attribute for each part that now contains its electrical value (22uF 10V) or manufacturer part number (such as ATmega2561-16AU.) Now each part I add to a schematic automatically shows the reference (C7), desc (22uF 10V) and value (00140). Life is good.

larger design. I tried looking for a .ulp, but dang there are a ton and

Well I found my own solution to priority based routing using net classes.
Its not perfect, but at least it allows some control for staged routing
without having to dig to hard for all the nets.

The reason for this is to provide the ability to route critical signal first
(and potentially lock them) and then routing other signals in some sort of
order. The way to achieve this is by setting a call for each net that
requires priority based routing.

The execute the ULP which provides board stats, and select all the nets of a
certain class. Copy that list to a text editor and make it all one line of
text.

The select the autorouter icon | select and paste that line of net names
into the command line followed by a ; The semi-colon tells the autorouter
to start routing the selected net set.

Repeat this process for other net classes (priorities) until your board is
routed. You may want to stop and hand optimize some of the routing between
steps.

Hope this helps someone, because the autorouter SUCKS at routing fine pitch
SMD.

Thanks,
Eldon.

This question is somewhat related to the previous post about high-current
traces.

So have a net class called High Current which defines the trace width of
0.100" and have labeled the associated nets on the schematic as such. The
autorouter then routes these traces with the specified net class parameters.

Here's the problem..... I have some components connected to these net
classes which do not need the class definition associated with the net. Here
is an example: I have high current +24V going through a relay an am using
the same +24V source for the relay coil. The coil does not need to same
trace width as the relay contact points.

So, my question is, how would I specifiy a net alias with a different class?

I can solve this by placing a component like 0 ohm link and then changing
the class on the other side of the component. But i would like a cleaner
solution that does not require redundant components.

TIA.

Hello,

I am using the lite version of Eagle, and I would like to create an RF
circuit layout that includes microstrip transmission lines. These will be
areas of metal on the top layer that will connect to other components like
matching capacitors etc.

I am trying to figure out how to connect these RF transmission lines to the
rest of the circuit and maintain
sync with the schematic. Some of the RF design simulators I work with can
create a DXF output of the matching circuit, which can be imported into
Eagle. I have tried to use one of the DXF to Eagle script converters to
import such a file, but when I do this I lose forward&back annotation with
my schematic. I want to maintain this. The other option I am thinking about
is to create an actual library part for the matching circuit, and a
schematic representation of such, thus allowing me to sync the schematic and
the board layout together- but this strikes me as a rather time consuming
approach, especially considering that the RF circuit undergoes many
iterations, thus forcing me to have to make a new library part each time.

I have included an attachment of an example of an RF circuit which I am
trying to lay out.

Thanks for your help,

Richard

Hello, I am new to SMT layout. Where I work we are taking everything to SMT
in the future. I have experience with PTH, and I am sure some of that will
carry over, but I need to learn more about SMT layout so that I am prepared
if and when the time comes to go to SMT.

I am doing some SMT layouts in eagle just to get the hang of things. Simple
low frequency analog circuits that do not need more then 2 layers.

My intuition was to have the bottom be a GND pour, and to route most of the
board on the top layer. Run power on the bottom, via up to the power pins.
By PTH habit I have my ICs in line with each other so that power maybe run
to them in straight lines. Decoupling caps near power pins, via down to the
GND pour.

Again, by habit, I have all resistors aligned the same direction. This made
much difference in PTH layout, as it allowed a "tunnel" to run traces
through. With SMT, it does not seem so necessary...

Using smaller traces too, as the pads are smaller. I see that some people
run traces between the pins of a SOIC (typical SMT opa) chip! This seems
hazardous. I guess I need to trust the fabrication process more?

I hope this post is not too much of a ramble. Is there a good resource for
SMT layout guidelines? That might answer some of my questions.

THanx,

Tony

Any tips and trix would be aprecheated. Anyone made a general ulp xml parser

Hello everyone,

I've had numerous customers ask me about where to find the EAGLE 5.0
Manuals. So I've posted them at

http://forums.eagletoolkit.com/viewtopic.php?id=17

They are available in the install directory but that isn't always memorable
(at least to me).

Cheers,

James.

Hello, i'm quite new to eagle and was just wondering if there is any
compatible connectors in the libraries (or in an 3:rd party one). The
idea is to make an breakout board with pins around the edge of the board.
I've searched in here on the board without sucsess. please help.

NOTE: I've put the steps here first for convenience. For those wanting
more info, read beyond for the how's and why's. I originally wrote this
with the description first and the steps at the very end. I don't know
now how this will read.

============================================================ ============
1. Create the slot in the Milling(46) layer. It is best to draw this
with the longest edges straight, and the shortest edges radiused to a
size larger than your board house's smallest end-mill or drill. Think oval.

2. Add an SMD pad to either the Top(1) or Bottom(16) layer.

3. Draw a polygon of the same shape as the SMD pad, and place it on the
opposite layer.

4. When you CAM-up your .brd file add an extra section, call it MILLING,
set the extension of the output to something unused like .mll, select
the Milling(46) layer and process the entire job with this new section.

5. Tell your board house that the .mll file has information on milling
that needs to be done before metallization.
============================================================ ============

I am posting this to describe a viable procedure for creating slotted
pads. Slotted pads are often used on current sense devices because they
have leads of a high aspect ratio (one side is much greater in length
than another) which would require a very large diameter circular pad to
accommodate. This over-sized pad would require LOTS of solder and heat
to properly mount since these are typically higher-current devices and
therefore have great heat-sinking capabilities, not to mention the board
itself will likely be a great sink as well because it will most likely
be of a higher weight of copper. These holes also unnecessarily waste
valuable board real estate.

The solution I propose is better, cleaner, and only has the drawback of
putting in the extra effort in both library construction for these types
of devices, and board CAM processing for any boards containing these
device types.

I have searched and read every post on both the User and Support forum
relating to "slots" and this also seems to be inline with what most have
said, although no other post describes anything as thoroughly, or as well.

First, please understand how EAGLE, the CAM processor, and the Board
House all play into turning what you see on your screen into what is in
your hands at the end of the process:

EAGLE draws things in layers only to distinguish different aspects of a
board for itself. A pad and all your wire on the top layer will end up
on the same layer at the board house. A layer in EAGLE, a physical
layer on your board, and processing layers at the board house are three
entirely different concepts, however intertwined. I will discuss no
further. ALWAYS keep this in mind.

Some have said that the dimension layer is useless, and that is a false.
Any layer can be used to do anything you want. It's how you process
your layers, and how you instruct your board house to use your output
files that determines what the board will turn out like.

If you separate the dimension and milling layers and process them
properly then you can use the to make the difference between plated and
non-plated slots. Simply tell your board house that anything in the
output file created by the Dimension(20) layer is to be used AFTER
metalization, and anything in the output file created by the Milling(46)
layer is to be used BEFORE metalization.

Without further ado, to have a board created with Plated Slot hole for
high aspect ration pins follow these simple instructions:

1. Create the slot in the Milling(46) layer. This slot can be drawn as
a rectangle or by air wires. Do NOT use a polygon. Draw it exactly how
you want the slot cut-out, but keep in mind the board house will more
than likely use an end-mill to route this slot. End mills are ROUND,
you CAN NOT have a 90-degrees edge. You can draw it this way, but I
guarantee your board house will call you and ask if you want the edge of
the radius to match the edge of the rectangle or if you want the center
of the end-mill to go the edge of the rectangle. It would be best to
just go ahead and make shorter edge a radius (the longer edge should be
straight), but make sure it's radius is at least as large are their
smallest end-mill or drill size.

Sorry for the *extreme* laziness, anyone happen to have this chip in a
library already?

I used to be able to build small eagle libraries by myself, but today I
discovered that my skills are very old, I am not even able to find parts
that share QSOP24 / TSSOP24 packages to start a new library.

Hello everyone,

I'm pleased to announce that Stratford Digital is now an official dealer of
EAGLE in North America.

Below is the official press release.

--------------------------------------

CadSoft Computer Inc. is pleased to introduce Stratford Digital Incorporated
as the latest dealer of CadSoft EAGLE. Located in scenic Stratford,
Ontario, Canada, Stratford Digital will provide online sales and support to
EAGLE users in Canada and across North America. A quick and easy online
purchasing process allows new users to be up and running quickly with their
newly purchased software.

Stratford Digital has used EAGLE extensively as an integrated part of the
Electronic Design Services (EDS) to their customers. "We have used just
about every electronic CAD tool available at the request of customers but
still prefer EAGLE. In our opinion, EAGLE has the highest value per dollar
ratio of any electronic CAD tool so we use EAGLE exclusively for internal
projects and recommend it to our customers", says James Morrison, CEO of
Stratford Digital. "And it runs on Windows, MAC, and Linux so users are
free to choose the platform of choice."

To help manage the flexibility and power of EAGLE, Stratford Digital has
also recently released the first tools of the EAGLE Enterprise Toolkit.
These supported tools allow professionals to harness the power of the
internal scripting abilities of EAGLE. Initial tools are "EET :: PADS
Interface" and "EET :: IPC7351A Package Creator". More tools are in
development.

Hi,

I often une the dxf export. But then I open the dxf in autocad(r) the names
of the layer are lost and they are named by the number only !
For example the layer "20 Dimension" is converted in a "20" layer.
Is there an other ulp which don't loose the layer name ?

Hello all-

I must be missing something in my use of Eagle.

I have two boards that I am working on simultaneously. One board
has four drill sizes and one has eight. When I add a drill legend
(using the drill legend ulp) to the board drawing I then need to go into
options->settings->drill and change the drill sizes listed there to
conform to the table produced by ulp. Unfortunately it appears that the
drill size table is global to all boards so if I fix one board to have
the correct drill sizes and legend, it breaks all the other boards. I
have a hard time believing that the process is supposed to work this way
so I must be doing something wrong. Can someone enlighten me? If that
is the way things work, why wouldn't the drill configuration be stored
locally to the project?

Any help appreciated.

Few problems though...

Who decides what's on the list? If it's community, then we all must
contribute to make a good listing that everyone can then vote on. This
means quite a discussion of just features.

What if the list changes? Say another feature suggestion comes along I
want more. Can I change my votes around? It would be nice if I could. If
we post here it doesn't work that way very well.

Shouldn't those who have paid have a much greater weight on their votes
when it comes to feature requests than those using the free edition (or
are free edition users allowed to vote at all)? Reason being that many
users of the free edition are likely to be transient. If so, how do we
know who has paid?

Hi,

Anyone know a way to create a part that has a hole only through two layers
of a four layer board (like a via)?

I tried creating a SMT pad and putting a hole through it, in addition to it
not working, DRC was very upset with this method.

The only painful way I have found so far is to and name a via using the
correct layer pair and to name it to the net.

I'm pretty excited about this. I have been helping a friend to get into the
laser cut PCB stencil business and he has finally launched his site! He is
offering very economical PCB stencils made of hi-tech materials other than
steel. I have had great success using his process for everything from 1206
parts to QFN and other really fine pitch stuff. In fact I am really
impressed with the quality of the results. If you are looking for stencils
for prototypes or small production runs, you might want to give this a try:

I've got my layout the way I want it.

Now I run the DRC - which is OK except I get error Blind via ratio.

The vias in question go through the top layer and the first isolation layer.
This is a total thickness of .235 mm while the hole size is .254 mm.
Investigating the DRC dialog box suggest to me that the blind via ratio in
this case would be .235 / .254 => .9 which is > than the min .5 that I have
in the DRC dialog box. So how come I get the error?

To explain it another way. The DRC dialog box indicates that the depth of
the hole / diameter of the hole should be a minimum of .5 .

I notice that if I make the hole bigger, the error goes away. so that
suggest to me that perhaps the DRC dialog box is wrong and should say MAX
blind via ratio.

Anyone like to explain this to me?

I used the .ulp and the ref-packages library to generate a .scr. Can
somebody use that .scr ( http://beryllium.net/~remco/ref-packages.scr )
to generate a board and send it to me? I should then be able to print a
nice overview of all packages.

Many thanks in advance,

Remco Poelstra
P.S. when running the .scr, it's best to have only the ref-packages
library active, otherwise Eagle will ask from which library the package
should come for every package.

I'm looking for a library that contains 3W edison white high power leds, but
I can't find them. Also not in the list of library's on the Eagle website.

Who can help me with those?

I'm really excited about Eagle 3D
(http://www.matwei.de/doku.php?id=en:eagle3d:eagle3d), because I just
learnt, unlike I had previously thought, that it not only works in
Windows, but also on the Mac platform, because the program is just a ULP
file! :-)

I've never used it before, but from my understanding and what I've been
told so far, this ULP file generates some (text) data-file which further
needs to be processed in a "ray tracer" program such as POVray.
I've found, downloaded and installed the Mac version of POVray
(http://mac.povray.org/), but it doesn't seem straight forward how to
process the .POV files that Eagle is generating.

If someone else on the MacOSX platform has this working, could they
briefly explain how to use it together with Eagle 3D?

I'm on a Powerbook G4 (1.67GHz) with 1.5GB RAM and MacOS 10.4.10.

The autorouter is all of the sudden running out of bounds of the dimension
(layer 20). Does anyone know what may be causing this? It is only doing it
on the top side of the board.

I am using the autorouter to route a small dense board. It seems to get
to between 80 and 86% done then stops and goes into the optimizer mode.
Is there a description anywhere about how the autorouter functions, how
the setup affects it's funtion?

Cheers
Evan.

Hi all,

I have a library I have used for a couple designs. Recently I thought it
would be a good idea to rename a supply device I am using in a new
schematic. After saving the library and trying to update it in the .sch
I get "ERROR: Supply symbol +1V8 can't be mapped to new version of
+1V8." There wasn't any 'old' version of that symbol with that name.
I tried to redo and save it too many times to restore the library to its
original condition? Is there any help for this?

Thanks, DRS

Hello all!

I completed my first design on Eagle a few weeks ago....little bit of a
learning curve as I am used to Orcad. But I am very impressed with Eagle's
functionality. I love the scripting!!!! Its so powerful!

Is there much demand in North America for PCB designers? Or is the market
flooded?

I have designed boards with SATA, USB, HDMI.......and all kinds boards for
all kinds of different things......as a secondary function of my current
job.

Is there much out there in the job market?

Cheers,

I need an Eagle Part for it.

This the somewhat generic IR Detector like you can get at Radio Shack.
The 2X is a frequency indicator.
Similar module by Everlight is RM8100-3-N.
It is not in Everlib.lbr on ftp.cadsoft.de/eagle/userfiles/libraries

Thanks

I need help on writing a ULP which extracts information from user defined
layers.

For example, layer 205 is height. I want to be able to have the height
information sent to an excel document.

The program I wish to create will be quite similar to the BOM programs
currently available, however it will be able to extract information from any
layer.

Any help is very appreciated.
Please either post replies here, or reply to my email at

Yeah, I know. All it would take is to run the BOM and read it. But you
know how it is. Time pressure, getting tired and so on ;-)

It would just be nice if Eagle could be commanded to always call chips
"U", or "IC" for the guys in Europe. But the world will not stop
orbiting around the sun if this doesn't happen.

I noticed that text only appears in two directions: running from left to

Is there any way to change this on a board? I would rather change the way
my text is read then rotate my whole board.

Hi all, perhaps a nub question but am trying to do a double sided
board, had thru and smt components on each side. I am having a problem
with getting the layout editor to display the components properly tho,
but imiagine that there must a solution to it...heres an example...:

There are two main DIP package IC's, one on each layer side of the
board. 1 is a 40pin DIP and the other a 16pin DIP. The 16pin package
sits between the pins of the 40pin package only its on the other side of
the board. Some of the pins I want to bend into legs which I will solder
to the 1(bottom) side like smt parts, and a few of the pins will be thru
hole as typical. Their signals come out underneath the 40pin DIP and run
into a few of its pins on that layer (top)--when I try to implement this
in Eagle layout- I run into a problem with placing the 16pin DIP on the
right side of the board- it defaults to the top where the 40pin is
placed- ideally the 16pin package needs to be 'mirrored' so that its
pinouts are laid out the way they will be once fabbed!! How does one get
the editor to do what its supposed to here!!?? HELPZ?

Please any tips would be great- I am stuck on this and was trying to
get a board etched this afternoon but am doubtful I will be able to
figure this out today myself.......thanks in advance, John D

###sorry- figured it out already--duh! (mirror button)

Hello everyone,

I've asked about this in the past and no one seemed to have any experience.
So for anyone interested in running Eagle on an Apple iMAC you can find my
experience @ http://www.stratforddigital.ca/sdtips/sdtip4

I didn't want to install X11 and I don't have a MAC license so this is about
running the Windows version of Eagle on a Parallels VM. It does work great
but there are a few issues that need to be addressed. For those concerned
about maintaining legacy designs this is a great tool as well.

Cheers,

James.
