Greetings everyone,
We've had multiple questions about how this tool works, so I'll give a brief description here.
When importing, the tool simply imports a netlist using the format defined by PADS.
A netlsit includes only the connectivity of the design. The tool expects all the correct components to have already been added to the PCB design with the correct reference designators. This tool will then automatically create all the connections. There are no checks as to the validity of the footprints present. As long as the footprints present are named corrected (i.e. have the correct reference designator) and have at least as many pins as required for the connections then the process will complete without failure.
Exporting is more straight-forward. When exporting an ECO file you have to select the a netlist file to use as the starting point.
There are plans (if market demand warrants) of automating the component insertion when importing a netlist. There are a lot of issues in that process that make it quite tricky.
I hope that helps.
