My circuit board house says they are not receiving any dimensions when I send the Gerber files. Where can I find what

file the dimensions should be in. I Have crosses in the 4 corners of the board in layer 20 which is marked the dimension layer.

Yes I am a newbie convert from old tape and dots on mylar.

Thank you   Lee

Hi Lee,

the board's contour is usually drawn in layer 20, Dimension. This is what your board house wants to have. I suppose the would like to have completely drawn outline, not only crosses. What are the crosses for? Fiducials? These could be drawn in layer 49, Reference, for example.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Richard

maybe I know you means,  you placed 4 crosses on the 4 corners in layer 20. and you think that for a rectangle board, it is enough.

In some sense, it is possible to determine the size and shape of a board.

but not all of board's shape is rectangle, maybe it is round, or cut a part on a rectangle. or any other shape ---maybe you often see them.

and the circuit board house don't know what is you need. they also should not modify your gerber file.

so you must use line to draw the keep-out of your board. in EAGLE, usally use 0 mil width line.

look the sample of eagle plz

Only 4 crosses to represent an outline in layer 20 is not enough for circuit board hourses to recognize the dimension information, you need to use "Wire" command to draw a complete outline in layer 20, and then regenerate the gerber files (using CAM350), there will be a file named *.dim among the generated files and that is your demension data. You can open and check it by CAM 350.
